Good morning from Denver! On the flight over, I contemplated what it is about travel that is so restorative. The obvious is that it provides a break from routine, an escape from the daily grind. But often, it does so much more than that....it adds weight to your viewpoints, flesh to your life experience. Whether traveling somewhere 20 minutes away or 20 hours away, there's always something to be gained. Everything observed and taken in is held up against what we know, our prefabricated sense of self. When you have to step back, compare and contrast, absorb or reject, you build more of who you are. Travel lets us do just that, often against beautiful and inspiring backdrops.
While S is at a conference most of the day, I'm content to stroll the downtown area, checking out local shops, and letting my mind wander. It feels good to do nothing - il dolce far niente. And to eat crepes.
We have a some exciting things coming up - I'm very much looking forward Rocky Mountain National Park, to my brother's wedding in Arizona, followed by a jaunt through Yellowstone. Stay tuned!
Thanks for reading.
